As a hydronic system, the RAAF air-to-water heat pump uses water as the method of heat transfer, which is more efficient than systems that use air as the method of heat transfer. It is! Because RAAF heat pumps utilize electricity and naturally occurring energy, this means there is no need for combustion-producing fuels such as gas or propane, and therefore no harmful emissions.
It isn’t the only option, but it is the most cost effective and all-encompassing.
It's much cheaper than a ground-loop geothermal system and unlike most heat pumps, it is capable of heating and cooling every aspect of your home including domestic water, floors, etc.
The efficiency of a heat pump decreases as outdoor temperatures decrease. For this reason, they are most suitable in homes that are better able to retain heat and maximize the efficiency of the unit. This generally means homes that are tightly built, well insulated and/or have plans in place for floor warming. Homes with low heat loss are also ideal candidates.
